Ciments Français - Italcementi Group

Ciments Français operates in the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico through Essroc. Set up in 1866 as Coplay Cement, the company started producing cement in 1872. The name changed into Essroc in 1989, combining the first three letters of Essexville (Michigan) and Rochester (New York) plants. Essroc, whose headquarters are close to Nazareth plants in Pennsylvania, also acquired an admixture company (Axim US).
As part of its investment programs, a 4km continuous loop conveyor belt connecting the quarry to Nazareth 1 began operating in October 2005. Thanks to this new facility the company could get rid of about 350 vehicle transfers through the city centre.
In 2007, the Group entered the ready-mixed concrete segment in the US market with the purchase of the Arrow group (West Virginia) and strengthened its activities in the Canadian market with the acquisition of Cambridge located west of Toronto (Canada).
In the early 2008, Essroc has purchased Crider & Shockey, a company active in North Virginia, a further step in the integration underway in the ready mixed concrete business in North America.
In 2010 the new line at the Martinsburg cement plant (West Virginia) started operation with a production capacity of 2.0 Mt of cement per year. It replaces the Frederik line and three old lines in Martinsburg.
