Ciments Français - Italcementi Group

Ciments Français is set up in 1850 in Boulogne-sur-Mer but its current business name changes only in 1881.
In 1992 it becomes part of Ciments Français and it is nowadays its sub-holding for international activities (Italy excluded) that represents about 75% of the Group turnover.
The Group is one of the leader manufacturers in the French market through its subsidiary Ciments Calcia, whose production capacity amounts to more than 6.6 Mt per year. Moreover, in the concrete sector it operates through Unibéton with a production capacity amounting to 4.2 million cubic metres per year and in the aggregates sector through its subsidiary GSM (22 Mt/year) achieving an important status on the French market. Part of the Group Technical Center (CTG) laboratories are located in Guerville. CTG is committed, jointly with the laboratories in Bergamo, in the research and development of new products and new industrial processes.

Ciments Français operates in Belgium through CCB, Compagnies des Ciments Belges, located at Gaurain-Ramecroix/Tournai. This location is a valuable asset: CCB is close to the French border, the European waterways and the North Sea. CCB’s production is divided in 3 different sectors: cement (1.9 Mt/year), aggregates (4.6 Mt/ year) and ready-mixed concrete (600,000 m³).

The quarry of Gaurain is one of the biggest in the world. Its surface can be compared to 200 football grounds. Today, CCB is drawing its raw material from 2 different quarries and its reserves are estimated at more than a century.
